Best Local Citation Building Services — 2026 Ranked

BrightLocal ranks first for choosing exact directories with cleanup in the same order. Whitespark follows for historical cleanup, Loganix for guaranteed live counts. One-time batches run from USD $5 for 15 submissions to USD $999 cleanup-and-building bundles.

A citation is your business name, address and phone number sitting correctly on someone else's directory, map or data feed. The product is accuracy and consistency, not links: some directories publish no website link at all, and a submission only becomes a listing when the directory accepts it. That is why the unit you are buying — submissions, live listings, or ongoing distribution — matters more than the headline count.[1][7][10]

BrightLocal is the best local citation building service for 2026, followed by Whitespark. Citation Builder Pro and Local Citation Services share third, and AZ Citation Services shares fifth with Loganix. One-time batches run from USD $5 for 15 submissions to USD $999 for cleanup-and-building bundles. Buy BrightLocal for directory choice, Whitespark for historical cleanup, Loganix for a contracted live count, and Advice Local when many locations need continuous management.[1][5][7][14]

Choosing and fixing specific directory listings[1]

Introduction

BrightLocal's Citation Builder is manual citation work you buy per listing, with no paid software plan required. You pick the directories from general, city and industry sources across 20 listed countries; BrightLocal audits your current footprint, submits or corrects the data, and reports which listings are pending and which are live.[1]

What they do

A person submits or corrects your business details on the directories you selected, with categories, descriptions and photos where the directory takes them. You receive a progress report plus the account logins, and later manual updates are bought the same way.[1]

Our verdict

We recommend BrightLocal when you want to choose the exact directories and keep cleanup in the same order. Buyer-selected sources, correction scope with a duplicate-removal add-on, and handed-over logins cover both a new footprint and messy existing data. Submissions are the promise while directories publish on their own timetable, so buy it for control rather than speed.[1][3]

Strengths

  • Buyer-selected directories with local and industry sources across 20 listed countries.[1]
  • Corrections plus a duplicate-removal add-on, with optional aggregator distribution.[1][3]
  • White-label reports and campaign management for 20 or more locations.[1]

Limitations

  • Submission and publication are separate events; some listings take up to six weeks to appear.[1]
  • Duplicate removal costs extra, and optional aggregator renewals run on a different model from one-time manual work.[1][3]

Price and engagement

USD $3.20 per standard manual submission or update, with a conditional bulk floor of USD $2 per listing; no mandatory subscription.[1][4]

Duplicate removal adds 20% of the manual-submission credits, and optional data-aggregator feeds renew separately.[3]

Charges are generally non-refundable, with specified pro-rata exceptions when a service ends; taxes sit on top.[2]

Directory choice and campaign setup

You select the sites from general, city and industry sources, and the order starts with an audit of your current footprint. Twenty listed countries are covered, so a business operating across borders can keep one workflow.[1]

Cleanup and later changes

Corrections are part of the manual service and duplicate removal is a priced add-on at 20% of the manual-submission credits. The business keeps the logins, and later manual updates are bought the same pay-as-you-go way.[1][3]

What the completion report means

The report separates ordered, submitted and live states, so finished submission work can still show pending listings. Directories publish on their own timetable, up to six weeks out, and no universal live promise is stated.[1]

Whitespark

Whitespark logo
Best for

Cleaning up historical business listing errors[5]

Introduction

Whitespark's Listings Service pairs citation building with a proper audit and cleanup, sold per location as a one-time order. It digs out historical name, address and phone variations, corrects the top sites exhaustively, then builds new general, industry and regional listings; a custom order can skip the cleanup.[5]

What they do

Find every historical variation of your business details, clean the selected key sites, build additional general, industry and regional listings, and hand over statuses with the logins. Photos, categories and descriptions are enriched along the way.[5]

Our verdict

We recommend Whitespark when old records are the problem: a move, a rename, or years of inconsistent listings. Historical variation discovery plus exhaustive cleanup on the top sites, then new general, industry and regional building, make it the most cleanup-centred order here. Expect 4–6 weeks after intake, no live-listing promise, and some phone or document checks on your side.[5]

Strengths

  • Historical business-data discovery with exhaustive correction and duplicate removal.[5]
  • Custom new-only orders alongside bundles with package-specific site counts.[5]
  • Available credentials and status notes, with later paid edits and no subscription.[5]

Limitations

  • Completion runs 4–6 weeks after full intake, with the early weeks possibly spent in the queue.[5]
  • No live-listing promise is made, and some directories still need phone or document verification from the owner.[5]

Price and engagement

USD $20+ custom entry per location one-time; cleanup-and-building bundles run USD $399, $599 and $999 for the USA tiers. Each tier is a different basket, so compare contents rather than headlines.[5]

Later manual updates cost USD $2 per listing with a two-week target. No citation-specific refund entitlement was found in the terms portion read.[5][6]

Choose cleanup or new-only work

The default bundles pair exhaustive cleanup of your top sites with new general, industry and regional listings. A custom order can buy building alone, so a business with clean data does not pay for correction it does not need.[5]

Ownership after delivery

The emailed report lists created URLs with usernames, passwords and status comments where the directory allows. Later manual edits cost USD $2 per listing with a two-week target, and unbranded reports suit agency handover.[5]

Queue, verification and live statuses

Completion runs 4–6 weeks after full intake, and the early weeks can sit in the queue. Payment buys the manual work, not a live listing: directories approve on their own schedule, and some ask the owner for phone or document proof.[5]

Citation Builder Pro

Citation Builder Pro logo
Best for

Managing bulk orders with branded reports[16]

Introduction

Citation Builder Pro sells manual citation packages through a business portal, with reports you can brand in HTML, PDF and Excel. Orders start at 20 submissions for USD $20 and scale to 200, covering audit, competitor-informed source choice, rich profiles and claim attempts on existing listings.[16]

What they do

Audit current records, check competitors, choose directories — or supply your own list — enrich the profiles with supplied media, verify the campaign email, and return account access with the report.[16]

Our verdict

We recommend Citation Builder Pro when one order must cover many locations or clients. The bulk-order portal plus branded HTML, PDF and Excel reports is the most agency-ready setup in this group, and the entry tier starts at USD $20 for 20 submissions. Directories still decide what goes live, and the top tier mixes Web 2.0 sources in with directories.[16][19]

Strengths

  • Bulk B2B portal with brandable reports for agencies.[16]
  • Detailed rich-profile data with email confirmation and verification handling.[16]
  • Claim and edit attempts on existing listings alongside new submissions.[16]

Limitations

  • The 200-submission tier includes Web 2.0 sources with no exact directory-only count.[16]
  • Directory approval is never promised, and some verifications need the business owner directly.[16]

Price and engagement

One-time packages: USD $20 for 20 submissions, $35 for 50, $65 for 100 and $135 for 200, before applicable taxes.[16][19]

One-time citation cards, not a subscription: the terms use monthly wording, so confirm the order is one-time at checkout.[16][17]

Cancellation with refund is allowed before the final report under the service policy; the homepage FAQ states a narrower unstarted-work rule.[16][18]

Bulk campaign administration

A separate B2B portal takes batch orders, and reports come brandable in HTML, PDF and Excel with statuses, live URLs and account details. Status emails run during the campaign with a final report at the end.[16]

What gets built and verified

Manual directories with rich fields, claim or edit attempts on existing listings, and owner phone checks where directories demand them. Campaign-email confirmations are handled for you; read the 200 tier as mixed Web 2.0 and directory sources rather than 200 directories.[16]

Refund cutoff and repairs

The service-specific refund page allows cancellation before the final work report, while the homepage FAQ only allows refunds for unstarted work. Account issues get a 30-day repair promise subject to platform terms, and nothing is refundable after the final report.[16][18]

Local Citation Services

Local Citation Services logo

Ordering small manual submission batches[14]

Introduction

Local Citation Services sells manual citation fulfilment in fixed submission batches, from 15 to 350, across general, industry and geographic sources. Orders are one-time and prepaid, and delivery brings URLs, logins and screenshots with unbranded agency reports.[14]

What they do

Check existing records, select directories, hand-submit rich profiles and return URLs, logins and screenshots. A separate cleanup and audit service handles messy or duplicate-heavy cases.[14][15]

Our verdict

We recommend Local Citation Services when you want a small, defined batch without a subscription. Fifteen submissions for USD $5 is the lowest entry commitment here, with credentials and unbranded reports supplied. Large batches lean on international directories where local supply runs thin, and live rates are the provider's estimate rather than a promise.[14][15]

Strengths

  • Small 15-submission entry with larger batches up to 350.[14]
  • Credentials and unbranded reports supplied, with multi-location work offered.[14]
  • Fix, redo or replace on listing issues before any refund assessment.[15]

Limitations

  • Markets with fewer local directories get a larger international-site mix.[14]
  • The typical 80% live figure is the provider's own estimate, not a measured or promised rate.[14][15]

Price and engagement

One-time batches: USD $5 for 15 submissions, $10 for 40, $20 for 80, $30 for 120, $50 for 200 and $80 for 350, prepaid by card or PayPal.[14]

One-time orders with no subscription; work starts after payment plus complete business information.[15]

A broad money-back promise stands, but the terms ask for a repair attempt first and assess refunds on completed work.[14][15]

Choose a count that fits the local market

Batches run from 15 to 350 submissions, and the provider is upfront that thin local supply shifts the mix toward international directories. Pick the count against the directories your market can actually absorb rather than a round number.[14]

Receive reusable listing evidence

Delivery brings live URLs, listing logins, statuses and screenshots for directories that need manual approval. A dedicated campaign email keeps verification mail out of your inbox, and agency reports arrive unbranded.[14][15]

Delivery and listing fixes

Delivery estimates start once payment and complete business details arrive. Unsatisfactory or non-live listings go through free fix, redo or replacement first, with refunds assessed on the work completed and the issue at hand.[15]

AZ Citation Services

AZ Citation Services logo
Best for

Choosing universal or niche directory orders[25]

Introduction

AZ Citation Services is a manual citation specialist selling custom universal, industry and location-specific directory orders plus cleanup. You choose the directory type and count on a one-time per-order contract, with a two-week live-listing promise once intake is complete.[24][25]

What they do

Take your exact business details, write the descriptions, select directories by the type you requested, create the listings and hand over live links with account access.[25]

Our verdict

We recommend AZ Citation Services when you want to choose universal versus niche or local units yourself on a one-time contract. The per-type choice plus selected-site cleanup and explicit no-downgrade ownership suit a buyer who will manage listings after delivery. AZ does not share the exact directory list before posting, and no fixed remedy for rejected listings is stated.[25][26]

Strengths

  • Directory types separately purchasable with a custom per-order plan.[25]
  • Cleanup edits inaccurate data and removes duplicates on selected sites.[26]
  • Buyer keeps listing ownership with an explicit no-downgrade promise.[26]

Limitations

  • Logins come where the directory permits; no universal control over every listing is claimed.[26]
  • No fixed remedy for rejected placements and no standing refund terms were stated; agree both before ordering.[25][26]

Price and engagement

One-time per-order contract with universal and niche or local citations priced separately; monthly work is available by inquiry.[24][25]

Displayed prices are $4 per universal citation, $5 per niche or local citation and $25 for optional cleanup; billing currency, taxes and the payable minimum need confirmation at checkout.[25]

Choose directory type and quantity

Universal citations cover 10 to 150 per order and niche or local ones 5 to 20, each with its own per-type price under a one-time contract. AZ picks the exact directories and does not share the list before posting, so judge the type and count rather than named sites.[25]

Correct and enrich existing listings

Cleanup corrects inaccurate data and removes duplicates on the selected package sites, adding descriptions, photos and categories where each directory allows. It is scoped to the package, not an internet-wide sweep.[26]

Keep access after the project

The completion report brings live URLs with credentials where the directory permits, and listings are explicitly not downgraded when the service ends. Later changes are available as optional paid one-time updates.[25][26]

Loganix

Loganix logo
Best for

Buying guaranteed live directory listings[7]

Introduction

Loganix sells manual citation orders with an audit and guaranteed live directory listings, as one-time or monthly packages. The entry order is ten live local directory citations for USD $40, delivered with live URLs and login details in a white-label spreadsheet.[7][8]

What they do

Build a custom opportunity list from niche, geography, competition and existing footprint, then deliver live URLs and login details in a white-label spreadsheet.[7]

Our verdict

We recommend Loganix when the contract must name a live count. Ten live directory listings for USD $40, with rejected placements replaced, is the clearest live-delivery promise in this group. Larger tiers pad the count with photo, video and social citations, so read the directory number separately — and permanence still rests with the directories.[7][8]

Strengths

  • Citation-specific live-listing and rejected-placement replacement commitments.[8]
  • Proposed directory list available when requested before ordering.[7]
  • Pure ten-directory entry package with a plainly stated live count.[7]

Limitations

  • The 60 and 100 tiers add 30 photo, video and social citations each; only part of the headline count is directories.[7]
  • Directory survival sits outside provider control despite permanent-citation marketing.[7][8]

Price and engagement

USD $40 for 10 live directory citations; USD $249 for 60 directory plus 30 extras; USD $349 for 100 directory plus 30 extras.[7][8]

USD $79 per month buys 20 directory and 10 social citations on month-to-month terms, paid upfront.[7][8]

The product page promises on-time delivery or money back; the general terms prefer replacement or credit first, so keep the product promise and note the difference.[7][9]

What counts as a directory citation

The entry package is ten pure directory listings, while the 60 and 100 tiers each add 30 photo, video and social citations. Compare the directory number across tiers and treat the media extras as a separate line item.[7]

Source selection and pre-order review

The directory mix is built from your niche, geography, competitors and existing footprint, and you can ask for the proposed list before ordering. Each location needs its own order.[7]

Live delivery versus permanent survival

Every paid citation is live at report time and rejected ones are replaced at no extra cost. Permanence is a different promise: directories can remove listings later, and the terms say so plainly.[7][8]

SEO Builder

SEO Builder logo
Best for

Building a mixed local directory footprint[20]

Introduction

SEO Builder is a UK-managed citation provider, formerly Citations Builder, selling manual batches of 35, 75 or 135 directories plus a 25-citation monthly option. Each order includes a citation audit, a stated generic, city and niche mix, and handover as a Google Sheet of listing logins.[20][21]

What they do

Audit existing citations, hand-create generic, city and niche records through a campaign email account, report the logins, and submit records to an indexing tool.[20]

Our verdict

We recommend SEO Builder when you want a stated generic, city and niche mix with an audit up front. The 40-day check-and-replace request path for pending listings is explicit, which few providers put in writing. You must ask for that check, replacements can fall back to generic directories, and correction work beyond the audit is not part of the stated scope.[20]

Strengths

  • Correct, incorrect and duplicate audit included in all orders.[20]
  • Explicit buyer-requested check and replacement path for pending listings.[20]
  • Description rewriting can be declined on the order form.[20]

Limitations

  • The pending-listing check after 40 days happens only when you request it, and replacements can fall back to general directories.[20]
  • Indexing figures on the page are the provider's estimates, not promised or tested outcomes.[20]

Price and engagement

One-time batches of 35, 75 or 135 directories with a separate 25-citation monthly option; confirm the current total before ordering.[20]

No standing refund or cancellation terms were published on the pages read, so settle remedies before paying.[20]

Audit and directory mix

Every order opens with an audit that sorts existing records into correct, incorrect and duplicate piles, and no new listing goes onto a site that already holds the business. The stated mix is generic, city and niche directories, with a 25-citation monthly option beside the one-time batches.[20]

Descriptions and account handover

Business-description rewriting is offered on the order form and can be declined, and a dedicated campaign email handles verification mail. Handover is a Google Sheet holding every listing login.[20]

Pending-listing follow-up

Forty days after completion you can ask for a check of still-pending listings, and replacements follow. Ask in time, and accept that a replacement may come from a general directory when no niche or city alternative remains.[20]

Ordering white-label directory submission campaigns[10]

Introduction

FATJOE sells productised manual directory-submission campaigns for the UK, US, Australia and Canada. You supply the exact business details once; FATJOE checks for existing listings, submits at 50, 100 or 300 volume, and evidences each submission with screenshots and logins.[10]

What they do

Submit your exact supplied business details, check each directory for existing listings first, capture a screenshot per submission and provide the login details.[10]

Our verdict

We recommend FATJOE when an agency needs repeatable submission campaigns across the UK, US, Australia and Canada. Fixed 50, 100 and 300-submission packages with screenshots and an unbranded CSV make client handover simple. This is submissions, not live listings: later edits, corrections and directory approval sit with you.[10]

Strengths

  • Submission screenshots with an unbranded CSV for client handover.[10]
  • No duplicate new listings, with partial refund for unbuildable quantities.[10]

Limitations

  • No ongoing listing-change or management service; later edits use the supplied logins.[10]
  • Roughly a quarter of submissions are expected to go live quickly, which is the provider's estimate rather than a promise.[10]
  • Some directories require owner verification by phone, email or letter.[10]

Price and engagement

One-time campaigns of 50, 100 or 300 submissions, paid per campaign.[10]

Full refund if the service misses its guarantees; partial refund where existing listings prevent the full submission count.[10]

Submission evidence for agencies

Every submission carries a screenshot, and the dashboard exports an unbranded CSV for client handover. The unit is the submission: directories that already list the business are skipped, with a partial refund for the unbuildable balance.[10]

Existing listings and future changes

There is no change or management service after delivery; you edit through the supplied logins. Duplicate prevention keeps new orders clean, but it is not a cleanup of old records.[10]

What happens after submission

Directory approval and owner verification decide what goes live, and FATJOE expects roughly a quarter of submissions to go live quickly without promising it. Some directories ask the owner to verify by phone, email or letter.[10]

The HOTH

The HOTH logo
Best for

Combining directory listings with rich media[11]

Introduction

The HOTH sells a done-for-you business listings product that starts with a citation audit and pairs directory listings with photo, video and social citation work. A standalone cleanup service runs alongside for businesses whose existing records need correction first.[11]

What they do

Research a custom directory set, run two rounds of manual outreach, claim accounts where possible, and hand over logins with client verification instructions.[11]

Our verdict

We recommend The HOTH when one order should combine directory listings with photo, video and social work, or when cleanup deserves its own project. The audit documents variants and aggregator errors before two rounds of manual outreach. Package totals mix media placements with directories, and anything still pending after two rounds comes back to you.[11][12]

Strengths

  • Audit documents business-data variants and aggregator errors before building.[11]
  • Standalone cleanup offer with documented two-round outreach.[12]
  • Package tables keep directory and media components on separate lines.[11]

Limitations

  • Package totals of 45 to 255 citations mix media placements with directories; they are not that many distinct listings.[11]
  • After two unsuccessful outreach rounds, continued follow-up comes back to you.[11][12]
  • Changing a subscribed business record means cancelling, reordering and buying cleanup separately.[11]

Price and engagement

Business Listings and Citation Cleanup are separate purchases, and monthly citations need an initial package first.[11][12]

Issues reported within 30 days of the report get a make-it-right response; no unconditional cash refund is stated.[11][12][13]

Read the directory count separately

The Starter package holds 30 local directory citations plus 15 photo items, and higher tiers add repeated media placements on top. Treat the 45, 65, 130 and 255 totals as mixed counts, and judge the order on its directory units.[11]

Audit and source selection

Every campaign starts from an audit of your variants and aggregator records, then picks authority, competitor and review directories for your niche and city. Client images feed the photo and video work.[11]

Cleanup and pending follow-up

Standalone cleanup runs two rounds of manual directory outreach, then hands back pending cases with the email accounts for continued follow-up. Changing a subscribed business name, address or phone later means a new order plus separate cleanup.[12]

Maintaining listings across many business locations[22]

Introduction

Advice Local sells managed listing fulfilment that pairs human work with data-distribution feeds: creation, claiming and ongoing optimisation of business records across maps, directories and data sources. Agencies and multi-location operators manage it all through a white-label dashboard with monthly client reports.[22][23]

What they do

Create, claim, optimise and distribute business records — name, address, phone, hours, categories and photos — across maps, business directories and data sources on an ongoing basis.[22]

Our verdict

We recommend Advice Local when many locations need continuous listing management rather than a one-off batch. Hybrid manual and feed distribution across maps, directories and data sources, with a white-label dashboard and monthly client reports, fits an agency or franchise operator. Counts, minimums, cancellation and portability are set at quote, so settle them before signing.[22][23]

Strengths

  • Hybrid manual and feed fulfilment covering new records and ongoing changes.[22]
  • Agency white-label dashboards with multiple-location support.[22]
  • Map and navigation distribution beyond directory pages.[22]

Limitations

  • Directory count, billing period, minimum commitment and cancellation terms are set per quote, not published.[22][23]
  • Legacy aggregator names on the page are examples, not a checked current partner roster.[22]

Price and engagement

Demo-led engagement with custom quotes; no public per-listing price or minimum was stated.[23]

No citation-specific refund, rejection remedy or post-cancellation ownership terms were stated; settle them in the quote.[22][23]

Fulfilment behind the platform

Creation, claiming and optimisation are done by the provider using data feeds plus manual work, not handed to you as software. Business hours, photos, categories and the core record are covered, with updates continuing rather than ending at delivery.[22]

Agency and location management

A white-label dashboard tracks multiple locations with baseline scans and monthly client reports. This is the only programme here built around ongoing multi-location management rather than counted batches.[22]

Distribution scope for the quote

Distribution runs across maps, directories and data feeds, but the page keeps legacy aggregator names as examples rather than a current partner roster. Ask for the actual destination list, and settle listing ownership and portability in the same quote.[22][23]

Buyer guide

Start with the exact business record

Decide on one exact business name, address and phone record before ordering anything, and lock the hours, website address and categories to match. Google's own guidance says complete, accurate details help it match a business, while relevance and distance shape local visibility on their own terms.[27]

A move or rename is a cleanup job first: Whitespark opens with historical variation discovery for exactly this case, while FATJOE submits the details you supply as given. Order the job that matches your situation rather than building new listings over old errors.[5][10]

Choose new listings, cleanup or ongoing distribution

New listings, cleanup and ongoing distribution are three different purchases. FATJOE sells new submissions with no later management, while Whitespark bundles cleanup with building or sells building alone on a custom order.[5][10]

Advice Local is the ongoing-distribution end of the range: managed creation, claiming and optimisation through feeds and manual work. Buy it when listings must stay current across many places, not when you need a counted one-off batch.[22]

Compare directory units with directory units

Separate submitted, live and indexed records before comparing counts. Loganix names its directory units apart from photo, video and social extras and commits the paid ones live, which is the clearest unit definition here.[7][8]

The HOTH's package totals fold repeated media placements into the headline number, and a FATJOE unit is a submission rather than a live listing. Keep extras and pending items on their own lines and the comparison stays honest.[10][11]

Choose the sources that match the business

General directories are the foundation; city and industry sources are where the fit shows. BrightLocal lets you select sources across countries and niches, and AZ sells universal or niche and local units as separate choices.[1][25]

Ask what the destinations look like before committing to a large count. Local Citation Services discloses that thin local supply shifts bigger batches toward international directories, which may or may not serve your customers.[14]

Plan verification and account handover

Some directories want to hear from the owner directly. Whitespark writes phone and document instructions for you, and FATJOE warns that owner cooperation may be needed — provider guidance shortens the work without removing your part.[5][10]

After delivery, control means credentials. BrightLocal creates the accounts itself and hands over access, while AZ supplies logins where directories permit with later one-time updates. Confirm who can change a listing six months on before you need to.[1][2][26]

Budget for the whole order

Price the unit, not the headline. Loganix entry is USD $40 for ten live directory citations, while Whitespark's USD $20+ custom floor buys a different basket from its USD $399 cleanup-and-building bundles.[5][7][8]

Add the extras to the same sheet: BrightLocal prices duplicate removal as an add-on and renews optional aggregator feeds separately, so one-time manual work and recurring feeds are never the same purchase.[1][3]

Review delivery by listing status

Read the report by status line. Loganix commits paid listings live, while Whitespark sells the submission labour and reports pending and live states side by side — both are legitimate, but only one promises the outcome.[5][8]

Know the follow-up rule before you pay: SEO Builder checks and replaces pending records when asked after 40 days, and The HOTH runs two outreach rounds before handing pending cases back with the accounts.[12][20]

Whatever the report shows, listings are business data, not placed votes. Google weighs relevance, distance and prominence alongside accuracy, so no citation count converts directly into a position.[27]

FAQs

What does a local citation building service actually deliver?

Creation or updating of structured name, address and phone records on directories, maps and related data sources — built by hand, by feed, or both. Check whether the fee covers claiming and correcting what exists or only adding new records.[1][22]

The contract unit varies: FATJOE sells submissions while Loganix contracts live listings with replacement. Name the unit before comparing any two prices.[8][10]

Are citations the same as backlinks?

No. A citation's value is accurate business information; FATJOE notes that some directories show no website link at all. Judge the order on records corrected and listings live, not on links collected.[10]

Keep directory submissions apart from editorial local links and from photo, video and social extras, which several providers count on separate lines.[7][11]

Should I clean up old listings before building new ones?

Yes when anything changed: a move, rename or new phone leaves inconsistent records behind, and Whitespark sells discovery, cleanup and new building as one combined job for exactly that case.[5]

A new-submission-only order does not correct existing profiles on its own, so confirm who fixes the old records before new ones go up.[10]

How many citations should I order?

Start from your existing footprint and the usable city and industry directories, not from a round number. Buyer-selected sources and per-type units exist so the count follows the market.[1][25]

In small markets a big batch necessarily leans on international directories, so a smaller well-placed order can beat a larger scattered one.[14]

How long do citations take to go live?

Submission work and directory approval run on different clocks: BrightLocal promises submission within 7 days while publication can take six weeks. One date is the provider's labour, the other is the directories' decision.[1]

Loganix promises live delivery typically in five business days, while Whitespark estimates 4–6 weeks for the project with no live-listing promise. Compare the promise behind the date, not the date alone.[5][7]

Do I need to verify listings myself?

Sometimes. Directories can ask for phone, email or document proof from the owner, and neither Whitespark's instructions nor FATJOE's process removes that step. Budget a little of your own time for verification.[5][10]

Campaign-email confirmations are the provider's side: Citation Builder Pro handles those and hands over the credentials with the report.[16]

Will I keep my listings if I stop paying?

Usually, for manual one-off work: Whitespark and AZ hand over credentials and sell later changes separately, so the listings stay yours without further payment.[5][26]

No provider controls the directories themselves; Loganix terms qualify permanence the same way. Removals and closures downstream are the directories' doing.[8]

Ongoing feeds are the exception: optional aggregator renewals and managed platforms need their own continuity terms before the first term ends.[1][22]

What happens if a listing is rejected or remains pending?

Loganix replaces rejected citations, and SEO Builder rechecks and replaces pending ones when asked after 40 days. The remedy exists, but it starts from the provider's stated trigger.[8][20]

The HOTH runs two outreach rounds and then equips you to continue, while Whitespark states upfront that it sells the work rather than the acceptance. Read the pending line of the report against the promise that was sold.[5][12]

Can I buy citation services for multiple client locations?

Yes, with one record per place: Loganix requires a separate order for each location, and that separation is good practice everywhere since every directory files by address.[8]

BrightLocal manages 20 or more locations under campaign management, while Advice Local and Citation Builder Pro run agency workflows with white-label reporting. Match the tooling to the number of doors you manage.[1][16][22]

How this ranking is built

Two scores produce this ranking: the Provider Buyer Score from our M1.3 methodology, and the Service Fit Score from this page's fixed local-citation rubric — NAP audit and variation discovery 0.16, local and niche directory targeting 0.18, structured listing fulfilment 0.16, correction and duplicate resolution 0.14, rich business data and verification 0.12, listing access and update continuity 0.10, submission-to-live closure 0.08, multi-location and agency citation workflow 0.06. Overall Score is the geometric mean of the two: sqrt(Provider Buyer Score × Service Fit Score). Every provider fact comes from the provider's own current pages, read on 5 September 2026. Full method: /methodology/.[28]

The full method is on the methodology page.

Summary

Provider Buyer Score (PBS) is the sum of the eight weighted buyer criteria. Service Fit Score (SFS) is the sum of the exact production contributions shown for this page. Overall Score is sqrt(PBS × SFS). Rank and tie status come from the production store.

Rules and dates

  • Ties: providers are grouped when their Overall Score gap from the group leader is below 0.5; tied providers are ordered alphabetically. Rank and tie status above are store-derived.
  • Conflicts: the most buyer-favourable specific current public promise that would reasonably form part of the purchase is credited. The conflict is recorded unless the versions can be reconciled; the same promise is not counted twice.
  • Display rounding: PBS, SFS, and Overall Score are calculated from unrounded production values and displayed to one decimal place.
  • Evidence cutoff: 2026-09-05. Page last updated: 2026-09-05.

Editorial standards and corrections

Every provider fact on this page cites that provider's own current pages, read on 5 September 2026 and dated in the source list. Where a provider has not published a term, the page says so in plain words — an absent term is not a bad term.

Spot an error? Every provider profile on this site carries a "Request a change" form, and anyone — provider or reader — can submit evidence through it. We acknowledge within 5 working days and respond substantively within 20. Successful corrections produce a corrected record and a dated public correction note.

Loganix promises on-time delivery or money back on its product page, while its general terms prefer replacement or credit and reserve cash for complete non-delivery. This page keeps the more buyer-favourable product promise and records the difference.[7][9]

Citation Builder Pro's service policy allows cancellation and refund before the final work report, while its homepage FAQ limits refunds to unstarted work. This page credits the broader service-specific promise and records the narrower wording.[16][18]

BrightLocal's headline promises submission within 7 days with an optional 24-hour express, while its FAQ says 7–14 days and publication can take six weeks. This page uses the seven-day submission promise and treats publication as a separate timetable.[1]

Quality statements come from published provider terms or attributed provider claims. Prices and terms change, so treat every figure as dated.
